Written from the prompt ‘the Wheel of Fortune card in the Wild Unknown Tarot’, ‘Patterns’ is the third poem in the Instagram suite of poems, ‘The #tpomarquarantinepoetry Series’.
To contextualize some themes in the poem, the following is an interpretation of the card in question:
In the Wheel of Fortune card, we find ourselves in a trippy world, a visual representation of the cosmically intertwined web of life. (…)
The colorful thread shows a vital force that unites everything. There is inherent meaning in what might otherwise seem to be random chances of fate on a spinning wheel. (…)
This card often shows changes that are beyond human understanding or control.1
‘Patterns’ is about truly knowing that you’ve found your person, feeling it in your very bones, being able to understand both your individual lives as meant to lead to a moment of physical and spiritual togetherness, seeing clearly how the future is going to play out before it does.
In ‘Patterns’, there’s also a deep longing for the most basic of instincts: The all-consuming need to know your lover’s body in a way that is unequivocal and total, when your sexual partner relinquishes all control and invites you to know them at their most primitive.
